No one likes missing their alarm. If you hate running late, your alarm not going off in the morning is your worst nightmare!

If your iPhone alarm isn't going off in the morning, there could be several reasons why, including:

  • It's not set
  • It's only set for certain days of the week
  • You have no sound or vibration set for your alarm
  • The volume of your alarm is very quiet and inaudible
  • Your sleep/wake settings are interfering with your other alarms
  • Other alarm apps are interfering with your iPhone alarm
  • Your iPhone is connected to your speakers or headphones
  • Your iPhone has run out of battery

If your alarm isn't going off, and it's because of one of the reasons above, keep reading to learn how to fix the issue and get your iPhone alarm working again.

How to Ensure iPhone Alarm Goes Off

Firstly, if your iPhone alarm isn't going off, make sure your iPhone has enough charge to last until the time of your alarm. You should also delete any other alarm apps that you don't want to use.

Follow the steps below to check your other alarm settings that could be causing your alarm to not go off.

To check your alarm is set, say "Hey Siri, is my alarm set?" or follow the steps below:

  1. Visit the "Clock" app
  2. Tap the "Alarm" tab
  3. Toggle your alarm on (so it appears green)
  4. Check it's set for the correct day(s) and time

To ensure your alarm has sound, follow the steps below:

  1. Visit the "Clock" app
  2. Tap the "Alarm" tab
  3. Tap the alarm you want to edit
  4. Tap "Sound"
  5. Choose a ringtone, song, or vibration for your alarm

To turn up the volume of your alarm, follow the steps below:

  1. Lock your iPhone or visit the home screen
  2. Press the top volume button on the left side of your iPhone

To disable sleep/wake alarm settings, follow the steps below:

  1. Visit the "Clock" app
  2. Tap "Bedtime"
  3. Toggle the alarm off (so it appears grey instead of green)

To disconnect your iPhone from your headphones or speakers, follow the steps below:

  • Go to "Settings"
  • Tap "Bluetooth"
  • Disconnect anything connected to your device or turn off Bluetooth by toggling "Bluetooth" off (so it appears grey instead of green)

Does the Alarm Work When iPhone Is on Silent?

Yes, your alarm will still work, and have sound, even when your iPhone is on silent. It will also work if your phone is on Do Not Disturb or Airplane Mode.

Your iPhone will play your alarm at your "Ringer" volume when your phone is on silent. You can change the volume of your ringer even if your alarm is on silent, which will only change the volume of your alarm.

When your iPhone is on silent, it will turn off sound when your phone rings or when you get a notification, like a text message or an alert from an app. It won't, however, turn off the sound on your alarm.

To change the volume on your alarm, you need to turn down the ringer volume (by using the side volume buttons) or turn off the sound so it only vibrates.

Here's how to make your iPhone alarm vibrate only:

  1. Visit the "Clock" app
  2. Tap the "Alarm" tab
  3. Tap the alarm you want to edit
  4. Tap "Sound"
  5. Under "Ringtones", choose "None"
  6. Under "Vibration", choose a vibration
  7. Go back
  8. Tap "Save" to save the changes

Here's how to turn your iPhone on and off silent:

  • To put your iPhone on silent, flip the switch on the left side of your iPhone, above the volume buttons, downwards (so the orange tab is visible)
  • To turn your iPhone off silent, flip the switch upwards (so the orange tab is not visible)
