Kwanzaa Countdown 2022 - Countdown to Kwanzaa

Kwanzaa is a holiday that celebrates African-American culture and heritage. It is observed from December 26th to January 1st. Kwanzaa is a time to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and look forward to the future.

What Do the 7 Days of Kwanzaa Mean?

There are seven principles of Kwanzaa, known as the Nguzo Saba:

  • Unity
  • Self-determination
  • Collective work and responsibility
  • Cooperative economics
  • Purpose
  • Creativity
  • Faith

Each day of Kwanzaa focuses on one of these principles. On the first day of Kwanzaa, families gather together and light a candle in honor of each principle. A Kinara (candle holder) is used to hold seven candles, one for each day of Kwanzaa. The candles are symbolic of African history and culture.

What Do You Do on Kwanzaa?

Kwanzaa is a time to celebrate family, culture, and community. During Kwanzaa, families and friends come together to enjoy African Drumming and Dancing, as well as feasts known as Karamu. These feasts typically include traditional African dishes such as collard greens, sweet potatoes, and peanut soup.

How to Celebrate Kwanzaa

Kwanzaa will begin on December 26, 2022. This year, celebrate Kwanzaa with family and friends by lighting a candle each day, sharing African food and culture, and giving gifts that represent the seven principles of Kwanzaa.

Happy Kwanzaa!
